Chris has worked in the field of community development and social performance management since 1993. He is a globally recognized resettlement planner and social management specialist, specializing in managing the community impacts, risks, and opportunities associated with resource and infrastructure development projects.

He has led complex land acquisition, land use planning, impact assessment, infrastructure planning, and economic development projects in more than 25 countries. His work integrates physical, social, and economic planning, with an emphasis on consultation, negotiation, and participatory planning, to balance risk and opportunities within projects. Chris understands the alignment between social performance and other functions and processes, and how linkages should be addressed through management system processes and the development of appropriate organizational models.

Chris is intimately familiar with international policies and standards related to environmental and social management and performance.

Chris completed an extended assignment with the United Nations Development Program in Mongolia during the country’s nascent transition from a centrally planned economy in the early 1990s and later served as Canada’s honorary consul and development program manager in Mongolia.

Justin has extensive experience and training in land access and resettlement, livelihood restoration and community development, and brings a depth of experience working across interdisciplinary and international teams.

Justin studied at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he graduated with a Masters in Public Policy. Justin specialized in Business and Government relations, with extensive training in corporate social responsibility and human rights, under the tutelage of John Ruggie and Jane Nelson.

In all projects, Justin combines his strong research background with his extensive on the ground experience applying practical and tailormade solutions rooted in local contexts. He has experience in managing, planning, implementing and reviewing projects in over fifteen countries and from a diverse set of sectors, including mining, energy, infrastructure and conservation.

Justin is thoroughly familiar with the policies and standards of international lending institutions and has developed guidance documents and capacity building materials for a wide range of audiences.

Mike is a founding Director of Steyn Reddy Associates (SRA). He is a global expert in land access and resettlement with over 25 years of experience working with natural resource, infrastructure and other projects as a consultant and in a variety of senior management and other positions. He has advised and assisted private and public sector projects and financial institutions on a range of challenging social issues, with a particular focus on land access and resettlement. He has helped clients develop corporate and project level policies and strategies, and planned, managed, engaged and negotiated on, implemented, carried out due diligence on, reviewed, monitored, audited and provided capacity building training in relation to numerous land access and resettlement projects in over 30 countries.

Mike’s work is focused on developing practical best practice solutions appropriate to each client and project locality, based on fully understanding local context, extensive stakeholder engagement and teamwork at all project stages. Mike brings to each project a thorough understanding of the diverse components that need to be woven together to ensure a successful project outcome for projects, communities and governments.

He is thoroughly familiar with the policies and standards of international lending institutions. He is co-author of ‘Land Access and Resettlement: A Guide to Best Practice’ (Routledge, 2015) and SRA’s Insights Series on the Land Access & Resettlement Process (2017), as well as author of SRA’s Tailings Storage Facility & Resettlement Insight Series.

Gerry is a Founding Director of SRA. He is a global expert in land acquisition, resettlement, social impact assessment, and urban and regional development, having successfully planned and implemented a variety of projects in over 30 countries. He has worked with natural resource, engineering and energy companies, lending institutions, local and regional government, the United Nations, and international NGOs.

Gerry’s work has covered planning, implementation and review of projects in the natural resource, energy, infrastructure, conservation, and post-disaster / conflict sectors, and focuses on creating win-win outcomes for communities and project proponents, based on practical application of international best practice tailored to the local context.

His expertise is in project management, land access and resettlement, land management, stakeholder engagement and community negotiations, social impact assessment, livelihood restoration, and participatory community planning and development.

Gerry is thoroughly familiar with the policies and standards of international lending institutions and has developed policies, guidance documents and training courses for corporations, institutions and professional events.

He is a co-author of Land Access and Resettlement: A Guide to Best Practice (Routledge, 2015) and SRA’s Insights Series on the Land Access & Resettlement Process (2017). He recently completed an MSc in Carbon Management (Climate Change Management), which included a thesis on Resettlement and Climate Change.
