Developed in light of the Global Tailings Standard, SRA’s 2 Part Tailings Storage Facility and Resettlement Insight Series examines the role of resettlement in relation to TSF management. The Series aims to help project proponents, mine owners, land access and resettlement practitioners, communities and other interested parties understand how displacement impacts and resettlement can be properly considered and handled within the broader context of effectively assessing and managing tailing storage facility (TSF) risks and consequences to communities, be these in relation to existing or planned TSFs.

The Tailings Storage Facility and Resettlement Insight Series is available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

SRA’s latest Insight Series, focusing on Gender Mainstreaming in Land Access & Resettlement, has been prepared by our Gender Expert Elisabet Torà.

Gender mainstreaming is critical for projects to deliver more successful land access and resettlement, and is becoming increasingly significant for financial institutions and industry organizations. However, much remains to be done to ensure a comprehensive gender-informed approach to managing physical and economic displacement, beyond mere tokenism. The 10-part Gender Mainstreaming Series aims to help projects take practical steps to ensure that vulnerabilities related to women and sexual and gender minorities are adequately addressed throughout the land access and resettlement stakeholder engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation process.

Introduction to the SRA Blog Series

SRA is pleased to have worked with our colleagues at Anglo American to develop a joint publication on the topic of Mining, Climate Change and Land Access & Resettlement.

Anglo American and SRA believe that Climate Change is one of the defining challenges of our time. The Insight provides a brief guide to the key considerations and practical steps mine projects and operations can take to mainstream Climate Change into their land access, displacement, and resettlement processes.

Climate Change will have profound effects on every aspect of our society, our economy, and the ecosystems on which we depend. It will affect every aspect of the mining industry, including access to land, water and other critical resources and will impact on the lives and livelihoods of the communities among whom mining companies operate. Approaches to land access, displacement and resettlement need to take account of Climate Change in determining the need for resettlement, in ensuring effective resettlement planning and implementation, and securing the future sustainably of mining operations and communities.
